I always knew I wanted my own dog. I grew up with dogs all my life.
At 24, I moved to the US for two years.
It was hard and I was without my family and friends who where a 12 hours flight away.
I had new friends but it felt lonely a lot of the times.
After a year there I decided to adopt. Everyone where against the idea because I was traveling a lot for my job and was going back to my country after the second year.
But I decided to do it anyway.
After almost 2 months of searches for the perfect one I saw Bagel‘s photo on Facebook, and it said he was going to be in an adoption event the day after.

Saturday morning of September 15, 2018, I called my parents on Skype and told them today is the day.
I drove 40 minutes and when I arrived my eyes where drown to Bagel, I couldn’t see any other dog, he was the one.
All the dogs where barking to people, asking for their attention and he was just laying there, didn’t really care, and I always think he thought to himself “why is she bothering me in my sleep”.
I took him out and immediately I knew he was perfect for me. I signed the papers, we took a photo and we drove home together.
The first week was hard because he was a 4 months old puppy getting used to a new home.

The hardest thing was leaving him every month for a few days when I traveled for work, sometimes for 2-3 weeks, but every time I got back his face would be the most welcoming happiest face, jumping in the air and on me (and sometimes even peeing from excitement).
My life have changed so much because of Bagel. He is my best friend!
When I’m sad or happy, when I’m not feeling well or just when I need a hug, he’s there, feeling me and loving me without words and without conditions.
He’s the best decision I’v ever made!

After the second year in the US, I took him on a 15 hours journey back to my home country. It was pretty hard and exhausting but worth everything.
Bagel was signed as my emotional support animal and therefore was able to come with me on the plane. he was the best passenger and everyone just loved him.

We travel, eat, sleep, run, and having fun together. and we also added a new partner into our family, and I’m getting married to him this June with Bagel being our maid of honour.

If you are considering adopting a dog, JUST DO IT!! It worth everything!

Before Titan and Leroy I was fostering dogs for the local animal shelter while I was at college.
I decided to change from fostering to working there as the foster and adoption coordinator.

I got Titan as a foster in December of 2017 after he had been at the shelter for two weeks.
His former owners came back to claim him and when we told them he would be neutered they said they didn’t want him because they used him as a stud.
I took him home for winter break and that was it!

Leroy came in to the shelter in January of 2018 after winter break.
He was adopted in January and returned in may for dog aggression. I took him home for the summer as a foster and he never left. Titan and Leroy were best friends since the moment they met, and Leroy is not dog aggressive as we have taught him there is no need for that.
Now we call him uncle Leroy because he loves dogs!

My life changed immensely since they came into it. I work as a behavior specialist dog trainer now.
Titan and Leroy are changing peoples ideas about pitbulls one student at a time.
Titan is also a therapy dog so we do advocation work regularly (before the shut down) Leroy will be tested as soon as testing is back open.

To those hesitating to adopt I would tell them to just do it!
Adopted dogs are not broken. Dogs live in the moment. If you can let go of their “sad story” so can they!
When you adopt a dog you not only change their life, but yours as well!
